Witchhouse should sound more like drone
see this is my thing with that whole witchhouse/chillwave shit, well not so much chillwave cause that’s less interesting but witchhouse does have some moments but I so want that shit to be darker. Although that oOoOO joint with the screwed freestyle joint does make me smile but that’s mostly because freestyle is awesome. For the most part though witchhouse is just some slow electronic shit. Bands like Salem need to slow down the synth and bring some death grind, more brooding atmosphere, right now it’s too uplifting.
I mean it’s called witchhouse, give that shit some fucking horror and make it some depressing kill yourself type shit. This is why I fuck with drone, it’s dark, it’s slow, it’s haunting and I like that kind of shit. It’s part of why I like that late 90’s early 00’s low budget memphis rap shit full of tape hiss and horror samples. Scary lofi rap done at it’s best.
When I think of witchhouse I want to hear music that invokes the horror of dying alone in the woods as the fog takes your last breath while the wolves gnaw away at your flesh as you have visions of the demons celebrating the taste of your soul. That’s what I want, don’t give me some spacey 80s chillwave over slightly slower dance dance, bring the motherfucking pain.
